South Afrika Burns, Azania Is Born

let me go underground

submerging to the worlds of the dead

exhume their bones

throw them on the bloodied streets

to divine or defy their will

for the living dead

the dead while living

they speak

tell us the beginnings of our wretchedness

point us to the shame-less past

where our nakedness is as bare as trees

bending to the winds

In dried white seasons

seasons of devilish harvests

take me to the Spirit world

to walk and talk with the Elders

Ask them Senzeni na?

in the plaintive melody of that long shriveled political song

riding on the dust-storms of any township funeral
